Manuscript Appraisal and Courses

As a published author, many people ask for my advice about getting published. I tell them this: just write!

But of course there is more to it than that. Whether you’re partway through a novel and would like some feedback on it, or are struggling to get started, I can (hopefully) help.

I run regular novel writing courses in my hometown of Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire. They’re very easy-going and informal, while aiming to get you really thinking – and there’s no pressure to read anything out if you don’t want to! Details will be posted here regularly.

The next course is:

Thursday 17 October: The importance of characterisation.

At Soden Style, Berkhamsted. Tickets available here:

If you’re unsure what to expect, here’s feedback from previous courses:

‘It really boosted my confidence, gave me a new concept with how to approach writing and the energy of the group was just so lovely and comfortable.’

Caroline

‘Thank you so much for such an enlightening writing course, I throughly enjoyed it and came away with lots to think about!’

Wendy

‘Thank you so much for a lovely, informal and friendly workshop last evening. I learnt such a lot with a nice group of people’

Alastair

I also offer a manuscript appraisal service including:

  • Full manuscript appraisal with written feedback
  • Part manuscript appraisal with written feedback and suggestions

Prices vary according to length and type of manuscript, but generally it’s roughly 1p per word, so if you have 50,000 words it will be around £500. This service is currently open to adult fiction only.

If you want to discuss anything at all, please email me here for an informal chat about what I can do for you.
